San Francisco Planting

The Urban Forestry in San Francisco’s Department of Public Works, in collaboration with Friends of the Urban Forest, is the third installment of Reyes’ Palas por Pistolas project. The San Francisco Art Institute exhibited Reyes’ work as part of their ‘Conlict Resolution‘ Exhibition; a two man show by Pedro Reyes and Teddy Cruz.
Reyes’ project in San Francisco took place in the Summer of 2008 when locals and organisation members embraced the concept and participated in the tree planting stage of the project. Palas por Pistolas was a success for both the San Franscisco State Department and Friends of the Urban Forest, and an innovative model for community and cultural awareness.
SFAI’s exhibitions and public programs are supported in part by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and the Grants for the Arts/San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund. Additional support and assistance for Pedro Reyes: Conflict Resolution have been provided by the Consulate General of Mexico in San Francisco, the Bureau of Urban Forestry in San Francisco’s Department of Public Works, the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Protocol, and AIA San Francisco.
Urban Forestry (Silvicultura Urbuna) del Departamento de Obras Públicas de San Francisco, en colaboración con Friends of the Urban Forest, es la tercera entrega por parte de Reyes y su proyecto Palas por Pistolas. El Instituto de Arte de San Francisco exhibió el trabajo de Reyes como parte de su exposición Conflict Resolution, un espectáculo presentado por Pedro Reyes y Teddy Cruz.
El proyecto de Reyes tuvo lugar en verano de 2008, cuando lugareños y miembros de la organización adoptaron el concepto y participaron en tres etapas de plantación. Palas por Pistolas fue todo un éxito, tanto para el Departamento Estatal de San Franciso como para Friends of the Urban Forest, así como un modelo inovador para la conciencia cultural de la comunidad.
