Coming in September 2011, Creative Time, NY, presents the ‘Living as Form‘ Exhibition, curated by Nato Thompson. ’Living as Form’, is a collaboration of of 25 curators and over 100 artists from around the globe. Palas por Pistolas will be shown as part of the exhibition, whose thematic base is socially engaging practices. A tree planting will also take place during the exhibition.

The town of Dinard, Brittany France, hosted the Hope! Exhibition at Palais des Arts in the Summer of 2010. Curated by Ashok Adiceam, the exhibition was to reveal the thread of hope and the great march of artists from 1960 to present. Onlookers and community members gathered at Boston’s ‘Wake Up the Earth Festival’ as the community held a memorial for victims of gun violence.
The tree planting took place near the basketball courts, where 3 years earlier a fatal shooting took the life of 20-year old Luis “Mata” Troncoso. The ceremony was the project of the Jamaica Plain’s Urbano project and was a fitting tribute for the community. The Ballroom Marfa hosted the ‘In Lieu of Unity‘ Exhibition, Marfa Texas, bringing together artists, citizens, residents and emigrants who have a sustained interest in social relations and their art practices. The focus of the exhibition was on the relationships between individuals and the collectives they form and moreover what it means to be “together”. More

The Lyon Biennale, curated by Hou Hanru, and entitled, ‘The Spectacle of the Everyday’, not only exhibited the shovels and videos but also organized one of the largest plantings to date. The site couldn’t have been better; the ward of a Children’s Hospital. More

The Urban Forestry in San Francisco’s Department of Public Works, in collaboration with Friends of the Urban Forest, is the third installment of Reyes’ Palas por Pistolas project. The San Francisco Art Institute exhibited Reyes’ work as part of their ‘Conlict Resolution‘ Exhibition; a two man show by Pedro Reyes and Teddy Cruz.

The Vancouver Art Gallery hosted ‘The Tree: From the Sublime to the Social’, encompassing the work of 40 artists. The VAG presented the exhibition that included a documentary on Reyes’ community art project Palas por Pistolas. Here, Mexican school children are seen planting a tree on the edge of an urban wasteland. More

1527 weapons were collected. 40% of them were high power automatic weapons of exclusive military use. These weapons were taken to a military zone they were crushed by a steamroller in a public act. More
